This morning marked the 10-day to departure countdown!
Waking up at 6am and seeing the beautiful sunrise it was time to gear up and get some kilometers in before work. With a frosty morning we dressed up and hit the trail by 630. It is good to know that our gear is for sure warm enough as it will be chilly when we depart and will warm up as we progress through May, June and July.
The morning ride was gorgeous and the path was really quiet. The wind was a bit chilly, but heading in the exact direction we need it to be; West to East 🙂 Biking out along the rapids we had a headwind and it was chilly, but nothing beats a crisp morning ride. We even spotted a beautiful Pileated Woodpecker drinking from a fresh puddle on the path. We slowed down to get a photo but sadly we spooked the birdie and he flew away.
The tailwind back from Lachine was awesome and we made really good time down the canal. The only hiccup was the streets being all blocked off in a huge radius around Lionel Groulx metro station. Police intervention for a suspicious package so with streets blocked and motorists being diverted (and distracted) we ended up having to take some sidewalks and do a long detour to get back home. So much for time for breakfast and a shower 🙂
Here is my silly artsy pic from the end of Lachine canal this morning. I liked the shadow and the sparkling water.
So as the hours pass the butterflies keep getting bigger and bigger. I am so excited to leave and we are seeing the items coming off our to-do lists. It is all very exciting to have it coming together at last.
With such a beautiful day the next thing on my to do list is another ride tonight to finish the day having done 60km. We will ride again tomorrow morning, then do a longer ride on Friday afternoon our to Ste-Anne de Bellevue. Saturday we hope to get in a good ride to Chambly and back. Stay tuned for pics and blogs the next few days 🙂
